Building on the strength of OB/Gynecology
Introduction
OB/Gynecology is at the centre of some of the most important moments in a woman’s life and, often, in the life of her family.
A trusted relationship
From adolescence and reproductive health to pregnancy, childbirth and the changing health needs that follow, the specialty accompanies women through significant physical, emotional and life transitions.
The demands placed upon OB/Gynecology teams are considerable. Their work encompasses consultations, complex clinical decisions, pregnancies, deliveries, surgical care, emergencies and the continuing health needs of women. As healthcare becomes increasingly patient centred, it is important to recognise that no single clinician or department should be expected to carry every aspect of a woman’s health and wellbeing alone.
The strength of an integrated ecosystem
This is where the strength of an integrated hospital ecosystem becomes important.
Building upon existing strengths in OB/Gynecology, maternity and women’s healthcare, this proposal explores how those strengths can be further connected through a more personalised Women’s Health Journey.
OB/Gynecology remains at the heart of the journey, while the wider hospital comes together around the woman.
The purpose is not to duplicate existing services or create additional responsibilities for already busy clinicians. Rather, it is to build around the trusted relationship that women already have with their OB/Gynecology team and connect them, when needed, with the wider expertise of the hospital.
